Transferring Site Ownership

Hand off a site's subscription to another owner.

Transfer billing (“Hand off this site's subscription to another owner.”) lets the paying owner pass billing responsibility to someone else. The new owner subscribes, your subscription is cancelled, and you receive a prorated credit.

Before you start

The person receiving billing must already be an Owner-role member of the site. If there's no other eligible owner yet, the Transfer billing card simply doesn't appear — invite another member as Owner first (see Inviting Team Members), then it shows up.

Initiating a transfer

1. On the Billing page, click Transfer billing.
2. In “Transfer billing to another owner”, Choose an owner.
3. Click Send transfer request.

You'll see “Billing transfer sent… They will receive an email shortly.” The recipient gets an email with the subject “Billing transfer for” followed by the site's name (the email itself opens with the heading “Take over billing”).

Accepting a transfer

The recipient sees a banner: “…has invited you to take over billing for this site.” They click Accept and subscribe and complete checkout. Your old subscription is then cancelled with a prorated credit.

Cancelling a pending transfer

While a transfer is pending, click Cancel transfer. You'll see “Billing transfer cancelled. Your subscription will continue.”
