Transferring site ownership
Hand a site's subscription to another owner.
Transfer billing (“Hand off this site's subscription to another owner.”) lets the person who pays pass billing to someone else. The new payer subscribes, your subscription is canceled when they finish checkout, and you receive a prorated credit.
Before you start
The person receiving billing must already be an Owner of the site. The Transfer billing row appears on the Billing page only for the payer, only when the site has an active subscription, and only when there is another owner. If it does not appear, invite someone as an Owner first. See Inviting team members.
Starting a transfer
- On the Billing page, click Transfer billing.
- In Transfer billing to another owner, pick a person under Choose an owner.
- Click Send transfer request.
You see “Billing transfer sent to …. They will receive an email shortly.” The email's subject is “Billing transfer for …” followed by the site's name.
While the transfer is pending, Billing says you invited that person and that your subscription is scheduled to cancel until they accept.
Accepting a transfer
The new payer sees “… has invited you to take over billing for this site.” They click Accept and subscribe and complete checkout.
Canceling a transfer
While it is pending, click Cancel transfer. You see “Billing transfer canceled. Your subscription will continue.”
