Business type

Switch your site to another business type when your business changes, and see a preview before anything changes.

Open the Site tab and click Business type. The page says “Your business changed? Switch your site to the type that fits it. You see a preview before anything changes.” Owners and editors can use it.

The types

Business sites can switch between five types. Each card shows what the type is for and the sections its page uses.

Type What it is for
Business Services, reviews and online bookings.
Salon Services, your team and online bookings.
Restaurant A menu with prices and table requests.
Sports academy Programs, coaches and online registration.
Cleaning Services, photos of your work and quote requests.

Your current type is marked Current and its button reads Current type.

Event pages cannot switch. The page says Event sites keep their type: an event site has its own dates, guest list and RSVPs, so to run a business too, create a new site for it.

Switching

  1. Click Choose on the type you want. It changes to Chosen.
  2. If your page has sections the new type does not use, Also keep lists them. Tick the ones you want to keep. If there are none, the page says “Everything on your page today fits this type.”
  3. Click Prepare preview. This can take up to a minute, and nothing changes on your site until you confirm. The preview opens on its own.
  4. Read Switching to the new type. It lists what Stays, what is Drafted for you and what is Hidden, and a Requests line saying which requests turn on or off.
  5. Click See preview to look at the new site. Use Phone and Desktop to change the view, or open it in a new tab.
  6. Click Switch to the new type to confirm. If you changed your mind, click Choose another type.

If the switch takes a moment, the page says “Finishing the switch. This page updates in a moment.” When it is done you see “Your site is now a … site.”

What changes and what is kept

  • Stays: sections both types use keep your content, plus any you ticked under Also keep.
  • Drafted for you: sections the new type needs that your page did not have. Edit them anytime in the site editor.
  • Hidden: sections the new type does not use that you did not keep. They come back if you switch back.
  • Requests: the kind of request your site takes follows the type. For example, a restaurant takes table requests and a cleaning site takes quote requests. Past ones stay in your Site Manager.

If you switched away from a type that took quote requests or registrations and some are still waiting, a From before the switch list shows how many, with “Still here for you to answer.” Click a row to open the Quotes or Registrations tab.

Good to know

  • The preview is only a draft. It expires, and if it is no longer current the page says “This preview is no longer current. Prepare a new one.” Prepare a new one.
  • You can prepare up to 10 previews a day for a site.
  • If preparing fails, nothing changed on your site. Try again in a few minutes.
